Country / Region: Germany / World
Begin of project: January 1, 2015
End of project: December 31, 2019
Status of project: May 31, 2019
The project “r4-INTRA” is part of the funding measure “r4 - Innovative Technologies for Resource Efficiency – Research for the Provision of Raw Materials of Strategic Importance” within the framework programme “Research for Sustainable Development (FONA)” of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The BMBF is funding 40 collaborative research projects with stakeholders from industry and science with the principal goal to enhance the supply of strategic primary and secondary raw materials for the German industry.

The research is focused on:
- developing mineral exploration concepts
- developing sustainable technological concepts for the economic use of polymetallic ores from known mineral deposits
- the economic utilization of processing and production residues
- the recycling of end-of-life products
- improving the acceptance of mining
The accompanying integration and transfer project “r4-INTRA”, headed by the CUTEC Institute in Clausthal, aims to induce networking within and beyond “r4” and to evaluate the potential of the research projects, with special regard to their contribution to the sustainability and the security of raw materials supply. An additional objective is the transfer of the knowledge generated within the joint research projects of “r4”. The BGR is a partner in all six work packages of “r4-INTRA”.
