BGR's contributions to the 46th Congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH)

This year's congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists "Groundwater Management and Governance – Coping with Water Scarcity" took place from 22nd to 27th September 2019 in the Congress Center of Malaga, Spain.

The conference offered a total of 718 technical contributions to the more than 770 participants from 83 countries on 5 continents. In addition to the classical fields of hydrogeology, there was also room for topics such as socio-economic development, groundwater footprint and virtual water. The focus was on knowledge transfer and exchange between the participants.

The presentations and posters were divided into the following ten thematic areas:

  • Topic 1 - Groundwater assessment and management
  • Topic 2 - Groundwater and climate change
  • Topic 3 - Groundwater sustainability and governance
  • Topic 4 - Groundwater footprint and virtual water
  • Topic 5 - Tools, methods and models to study groundwater
  • Topic 6 - Groundwater, wetlands and natural heritage
  • Topic 7 - Karst hydrogeology
  • Topic 8 - Groundwater quality and pollution processes
  • Topic 9 - Groundwater and socio-economic development in Latin-America
  • Topic 10 - Urban groundwater

Particularly noteworthy are the high-quality keynote speeches and the excursions offered on various topics.

As a "scientific partner" of the congress, the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) was well represented with 10 colleagues and was also involved in the scientific committee of the conference. Geoscientists from BGR and partners from various international projects contributed to the success of the conference with 6 lectures, 3 posters and 3 convenerships.
