Project Outline
The project provides policy advice to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and develops concepts and strategies on how to use the potential of mineral and energy resources for sustainable development.
The three main tasks of the project are:
Strategic advice to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the organisations of German development cooperation:
- Provision of information and analysis regarding the extractive sector in developing countries
- Assessment of sector-specific approaches
Development of concepts and strategies for a transparent and sustainable resource management:
- Contribution to the development of sector-relevant concepts, country concepts, position papers and strategies of German development cooperation
- Studies and analysis of instruments, policy options and international initiatives as related to sustainable resource management
Support to international initiatives on global and regional resource governance:
- Support to and representation of the German development cooperation in international fora
- Fostering international multi-stakeholder dialogue (e.g. by distribution of information, concepts and positions)
- Support to and organisation of international conferences and events
